Ramadan Football Tournament 2014
The Ramadan Football Tournament 2014 kicked off on 6 July 2014 with 27 teams from Emaar’s communities vying for the annual title. The indoor five-a-side format of the game was played at Sports Zone located in Fitness First at The Meadows Village. The ongoing World Cup football fever only added to the enthusiasm of the players and their audience.
The semi-finals saw the teams Emrill Challengers, Dubai Blue, Pheasant Pluckers, and K-Town fight it out through penalty shootouts to enter the final round. Swift footwork, smart passing, and strategic use of the indoor court made the tournament an absolute treat for its cheering crowd.
Finalists K-Town (Arabian Ranches team) and Emrill Challengers (the supporting community staff team) breezed into the final and put up a nail-biting finish till the very last penalty shot. And at the end, the best of all squads – K-Town lifted the cup to emerge winners of the Ramadan Football Tournament 2014. Though the tournament is over, the impression these friendly matches left on everyone continues to linger – and so does the camaraderie between community residents and security, cleaning and lifeguard staff, who met on a common playing field for a game of football. No wonder it’s called ‘the beautiful game!’
